Goodbye video cassettes, hello Windows Azure
Two pieces of news that caught my attention equally.
JVC decided to stop production of video players and recorders. With this, an episode that lasted 33 years comes to an end, an episode I remember fondly: whole rooms full of people watching horror or martial arts movies in the ’80s, video cassettes circulating “under the counter”, all based on the same rudimentary technology, VHS. A chapter has ended that future generations will only know as an oddity, a step towards something better.
On another note, I’m pleased to see that Microsoft is moving after all in a good direction. With the launch of the Windows Azure system, companies will be able to benefit from collective computing power, potentially hosted on Microsoft’s servers. For a fee, of course. :) Here’s to even better things!

imi pare nespus de rau, a fost ca o adevarata minune, cind am cumparat primul videorecorder, am atitea casete dragi mie! era un fel de jurnal de zi vorbit si in imagini, iubit mai ales in concedii, cum sa pleci fara camera in concediu si dupa aia sa nu faci caseta?? si usor la vremea aia de daruit celor dragi! asta este, tehnica nu sta pe loc!spre groaza mea, care cind invat cite ceva la capitol , ma bucur crezind ca e pe viata!!!
Si eu care mi-am cumparat un DVD player nu de mult,se cheama ca sunt o demodata?Oricum o sa-l pastrez si o sa-l folosesc mult timp si la adanci batranetzi o sa-l expun intr-o expozitie cu aparate video“retro”.Va fi un exponat de mare succes!!!

@viori: Nu dispar DVD playerele ci video playerele, asa ca tu poti sa stai linistita o buna perioada de timp cu achizitia ta recenta ;) @sebastian: In privinta perioadei “video”, e imposibil sa uiti cum ne adunam la cate un prieten, plateam chiria casetei (vreo 20-25 de lei) si puteam vedea filme exceptionale, traduse de Irina Nistor, cu inconfundabila ei voce. Uneori vedeam la Filarmonica astfel de filme pe casete video, unde erau montate doua sau trei televizoare si lumea privea ca la cinematograf. Nu poti sa uiti asa ceva, pentru ca e greu si sa crezi ca a existat, cu-adevarat! :)
